This Privacy Policy explains how Varsly ("Varsly," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, retains, and protects information in connection with our websites, mobile applications, and related services (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy is incorporated into, and should be read together with, the Terms of Service.
By creating an account, accessing, or using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, you may not access or use the Service.
We collect the following categories of information in connection with the Service:
Account and authentication data, including your email address and identifiers provided by third-party authentication providers such as Google or Apple. Profile information, including display name, username, bio, photo, banner image, position, location, birth year, and sport lane. School, team, and coaching history, including claims, affiliations, and verification submissions. Content you create, including posts, comments, reactions, reposts, hashtags, and media you upload. Communications, including direct messages and team group chat content. Clubhouse identity data, including your chosen display name, avatar, banner, bio, and presence timestamps used to show who is active — set independently of your real profile. Card data, including any Player Card or Clubhouse Card you create, the title, border, and back-of-card text you choose, and votes you cast or receive on cards. Relationship data, including connections, follows, blocks, mutes, and reports you submit or that are submitted about you. Varsly Games and Picks data, including league membership and roster history, league Team Chat messages, matchup and mini-game results, Roast photo submissions and votes, Virtual Credit balances, and Picks of the Day and College Picks selections and results. Device and technical data, including device identifiers, push notification tokens, IP address, app version, and log data reasonably necessary to secure and operate the Service. Usage data, including features accessed and interactions with the Service, collected to operate, secure, and improve the Service.
Virtual Credits and other Varsly Games and Picks counters described above are game telemetry with no cash value, not a financial account, and are described further in the Terms of Service.
We use the information described in Section 2 to: provide, maintain, and personalize the Service, including sport-specific feeds and discovery; operate authentication and account security; suggest teammates, opponents, connections, and teams, including through artificial intelligence-assisted features; deliver notifications and communications, including Clubhouse and Varsly Games notices; operate Varsly Games and Picks; moderate content, investigate reports, and enforce the Terms of Service and Community Guidelines; detect, prevent, and investigate fraud, abuse, and security incidents; analyze, maintain, and improve the Service; and comply with applicable law and legal process.
Where you use an artificial intelligence-assisted feature, such as "Remember This?" or Career Recap, we send the name, school, and related profile details you have provided to our AI and search infrastructure providers to search for and summarize publicly available information about you; those providers process that information under their own terms, as described in Section 6.
Your Clubhouse identity is independent from your real profile: its display name, avatar, banner, and bio are set separately and are not drawn from your profile, and other users cannot navigate from your Clubhouse identity to your real profile. The leagues, teams, and connections you follow there are tracked separately from your public profile's. Internally, Varsly still associates your profile, Clubhouse identity, devices, identifiers, and activity with the same underlying account so that we can enforce our Terms of Service, respond to reports, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations, as described in the Terms of Service. Varsly's Clubhouse feed ranking may also show you more content from people at your own real school, determined from your account's school history; this never reveals your identity or theirs. Some Clubhouse posts are visible only to members of a specific school's Clubhouse.
When you sign in with Google, Apple, or another supported authentication provider, that provider shares certain account information with us in accordance with your settings and permissions with that provider. We use that information solely to create, authenticate, and secure your Varsly account. Your use of a third-party authentication provider is also governed by that provider's own terms and privacy policy.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own independent marketing purposes.
We use service providers to host, secure, and operate the Service, and we share information with them as reasonably necessary to perform those functions, subject to contractual confidentiality and security obligations. Supabase provides our database, authentication, file storage, and backend infrastructure, and processes most of the information described in Section 2 on our behalf. Vercel hosts our web application. Apple provides push notification delivery to iOS devices. Where you use "Remember This?" or Career Recap, we share the name, school, and related profile details you have provided with OpenAI and Serper so those providers can search for and summarize publicly available information on our behalf; those providers process that information under their own applicable terms.
We may disclose information where we reasonably believe disclosure is required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request; to protect the rights, property, or safety of Varsly, our users, or the public; to investigate or prevent fraud, abuse, or security incidents; to enforce the Terms of Service; or in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, subject to appropriate confidentiality safeguards. Content you choose to post publicly, or share with other users through the Service's messaging or sharing features, is visible to others according to the product's visibility settings and is not "shared" by Varsly for purposes of this Section.
We may review account activity and content to enforce the Terms of Service and Community Guidelines, respond to reports, and investigate suspected misconduct. We may preserve, restrict, or disclose account information, communications, content, and technical records when we reasonably believe it is necessary to address an emergency, prevent harm, investigate abuse, comply with a valid legal request, or protect the rights or safety of any person, as described further in the Terms of Service. Varsly is not an emergency service; if you believe anyone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services directly.
We retain account and content data for as long as your account remains active and for a reasonable period afterward as necessary for backups, security, dispute resolution, fraud prevention, and compliance with legal obligations. Varsly Games and Picks records, including league rosters, Team Chat messages, Roast submissions, and Picks of the Day and College Picks selections, are game telemetry, not financial account records; unused Virtual Credits have no cash value and are not paid out, refunded, or otherwise compensated on account deletion.
You may delete your account at any time in Settings, or request deletion by contacting privacy@varsly.app. Deleting your account does not require us to retrieve or delete copies of content previously shared with, reproduced by, or lawfully retained by other users, or copies retained in backups or legal-preservation systems for a commercially reasonable period, consistent with the Terms of Service.
We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information against unauthorized access, use, alteration, or disclosure, including encrypted transport, access controls, and database-level row security policies. No method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and devices.
You can access, review, and update much of your account and profile information directly within the Service. Depending on your state or country of residence, you may have additional rights with respect to your personal information, which may include the right to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a portable copy of your personal information, and the right to object to or restrict certain processing.
To submit a request, contact privacy@varsly.app. We may need to verify your identity before responding, and we will respond within the time required by applicable law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
If you enable push notifications, we collect a device or browser push token used solely to deliver notifications you have opted into, such as direct messages, Varsly Games and Picks of the Day alerts, and moderation updates. You can disable push notifications at any time in Settings or through your device's notification settings, which will stop future delivery and, where applicable, remove the associated token from our systems.
The Service is intended for users who are at least 16 years old, is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If we learn that we have collected personal information from someone under 16, we will take reasonable steps to delete that information and may terminate the associated account, as described in the Terms of Service. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, contact privacy@varsly.app.
Varsly is operated from, and its infrastructure is located in, the United States. If you access or use the Service from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States and other countries where Varsly or its service providers operate, which may have data protection laws different from those in your jurisdiction.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. We will post the updated Privacy Policy and revise the "Last updated" date and version identifier. For material changes, we will provide notice through the Service, by email, or by another reasonable method when required by law. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of an updated Privacy Policy constitutes your acknowledgment of the updated policy, unless applicable law requires your affirmative consent.
